Dave Visits The Windy City.....and Is Blown Away!!!!

It's been awhile since I've updated you on the latest developments in the field of Nuclear Disarmament. Here's a few bullet points of recent things we have done in class:
  • We watched a Japanese film called "MacArthur's Children" that made 0 references to Nuclear weapons and only 2 references to WWII. It did, however, manage to include baseball, so it was worthwhile in that regard.
  • We watched a Japanese film that starred a famous Japanese actor with a Japanese name. In this particular he was playing the role of a doctor. However, halfway through the excerpt we watched, he turned into a martial artist and proceeded to completely go Jackie Chan on a gang of 20 ruffians that insulted him. After his amazing display of martial arts, he looked around at the brutality he had unleashed on his foes and remarked to his assistant in Japanese: "Such violent is not good for doctors. Take care of them." I'm still not sure why we watched this one.
  • Yesterday we watched a round of sumo wrestling.
  • Today, we watched a video that contained examples of Angular Momentum as found in figure skating, ballet, and zero gravity. This was actual relevant cause this class is rooted in Physics.
I am really enjoying this class.

Last night, I went up to The Peninsula hotel in Chicago to play at a Gala dinner with a quartet from IWU. The place was amazing! It was the fanciest hotel that Dave Getz has ever stepped foot into (see picture to the right). The event of the evening was a fund-raising campaign that IWU is starting and we were graciously asked to play background music. When we got breaks from playing, we would walk out on the balcony (that was equally fancy) and look down on the passer-bys several stories below us (see picture to the left). It was quiet the evening. The funnest part though occurred on the van ride back home when our cellist, Mike, began writing messages to vehicles around us in the bumper-to-bumper traffic. You really had to be there for it be funny, but trust me, it was hilarious.

I am leaving IWU and heading back to Morton for the weekend to spend time with my family.
